New Job!

July 13, 2011

So, my job search did not last very long. Once I updated my online profiles, the calls came in. So, after a week of intense interviews, I decided to join the Job Seeker team at CareerBuilder! Today is my third day, and it's going pretty well. The people here are great, and they have a good system for teaching new hires about the technologies they use. The half hour commute isn't too bad, though I'm considering finding a different way. Chances are, when I get a bike and the weather isn't so hot, I'll try to bike to work instead of driving.

Also, something seems a little messed up on my website... Other than that awful contact page. I'll try to fix it eventually. Bear with me!

Moved to Alpharetta

June 26, 2011

Life has been incredibly busy lately! And that's not a bad thing. In April, Chris and I got married, then in May we graduated, and now he has a job working at Radiant Systems as a developer. We moved to Alpharetta, GA, giving Chris a 5 minute drive to work each day. We also adopted a Dachshund named Scarlett! Things have about settled down now, so I am in the process of updating this website and getting my job search back on track. I just finished creating a contact page so that people may email me via the website. It can be found under "Contact" in the sidebar, or by clicking here. I also still want to write something to help me manage this "blog" more easily. Either use WordPress and write a feed reader, or just write my own blog system. I don't need a lot, what with tags and such, just something to keep this updated on how things are in my life. I might start updating more often, then!

UPDATE (6/27/11 9:15 am): Still working on that contact page... It works fine on my local machine. But when it's live, it either fails or takes about an hour to send an email. I had AJAX on it, and it worked - it just took an incredibly long time and you had to keep the window open that whole time. Then I took AJAX off, and it bombs. I can't figure out why, though. If anyone has an idea, feel free to email me at chelsea [at] oochelz.com. I will continue working on it later.

New Email Address

April 19, 2011

I now have a new email address! So, for those of you making fun of me for still using Yahoo! Mail (which is a great email client) can leave me alone, haha. No, really, Yahoo! Classic was always awesome, and I will continue to use it. But I like my new email address - chelsea [at] oochelz [dot] com. And I will see how Google Apps works for me. I do like the labels vs. folders idea in mail, though.

Also, I graduate with my BS in Computer Science in less than three weeks! I can't wait to start my career as a programmer. Chris and I are looking for places mainly in Charlotte, NC, and I am so excited to get out of this house we live in. I should post photos of the vine growing through my wall...

Anyway, I just wanted to put out the update for my email address. Thanks!

Married!

April 13, 2011

Chris Youmans and I got married on Saturday, April 9, 2011! Yay! So, I am currently working on getting an email address that is last-name-ignorant and uses my domain name, but it will be next week before I can get that running. I just wanted to get the update on here quickly, so this will be short and sweet. But if you see "Chelsea Sousa" anywhere on this page, please contact me and let me know.

Thank you!

Overdue Update

March 8, 2011

I have let my website sit on the backburner while I took care of wedding plans, school work, and a job search. So here's an update:
  • I got a job working at VSU! You can find me each morning at the IT Helpdesk or out on a work order. It's going really well and I'm learning something new everyday!
  • Currently, I am working with a few others on a website for our local ACM chapter. It's looking good, but we are having issues getting what we need to make it live.
  • I am working on two things for this website:
    • Contact Page
    • MySql connection to my Wordpress blog so that I don't need to create a WP theme to look exactly like the rest of my site. This is proving to be a bit of a challenge. Once I figure it out, though, I will also use it on a site I am building for a lawyer who would like the ability to edit pages on her website.
  • I am getting married in 32 days!
So, keep coming back, even if I am slow to update!

Resume is Now Live!

January 6, 2011

As of tonight, my resume is complete. Up next, I hope to have neat buttons for my Contact section, and possibly a contact page. The contact page might be easier for me... I've been having difficulty making the buttons look decent. I might enlist Chris to make me something pretty, since he has a way with Photoshop.

Page in progress!

December 12, 2010

Hi! My name is Chelsea Sousa and this is my in-progress website. Thanks goes to Chris Youmans for getting this up and running.

Just a quick bit about me:
I am currently a Computer Science major at Valdosta State University and graduate on May 7, 2011.
I am also getting married to Chris Youmans on April 9, 2011!
Within a year, my whole life will change - for much better, and it's already pretty amazing.
I'm a big fan of photography, music, and simply art in general. I also try to do a bit of gardening, but I am lacking a real garden. One day, I will have a dark room, kiln, and garden. One day... But that's a long time from now. Chris hopes to have a music studio. So, we better get a big house.

Check out our wedding website here. We post our DIY projects and such there, mostly. You know.. When we are not programming, which is not very often.

Finally, just a little bit about this site:
I built this in Microsoft Visual Studio using ASP.Net with C#. Soon, I hope to import my blog on this main page.
So keep coming back! The goal date to have this website complete is January 21, 2011.
